[Artwork] Asylum
Title: Asylum
Fandom: White Collar
Art characters/Pairings: Neal
Rating: PG-13
Content Notice: safe
Dimensions/Resolution: 1320x900 @300dpi
Stock used: rope, underwater bullet trails, blindfold

Summary: Not long after Kate's tragic death, a case turns violent and dangerous but in the surrounding darkness and silence, for a brief moment Neal finally finds peace.

A/N: Ah, this was a tricky square to fill. Initially I was thinking of blindfolding the boys and putting them in a dark room, but then I realized I've already had them kidnapped and locked or trapped in places (and I still need to trap them for the "trapped together" square). So I really wanted to do something different here. And I guess it came out different and vague :P

This fills the sensory deprivation square on my H/C Bingo card \o/

Took me a second to notice the image in the water. I like this, it's disturbing yet peaceful.

Never did like Kate though, for a variety of reasons. I still think she was evil. ;)

Thank you :D

I have a very *shrug* thing for Kate, mainly because canon gave us so little knowledge about her, it's impossible to form any solid opinion. Which is why I do enjoy reading fics exploring Kate, we do have a few excellent ones BUT they are still fics and there's no way of telling to what extent they actually fit canon.

Even the bits we were given in Forging Bonds don't tell us all that much, heh :D

They never really went anywhere with Kate and that irritated me, and then she was dead...which left no emotional impact on me whatsoever. Huh, Kate's dead...oh well. I was however upset when Sara left for London, particularly after that beautiful proposal. ;)

I was also saddened when there wasn't something/someone larger behind Rachel/Rebbecca. I was hoping they were going to go somewhere with her

Poignant and full of angst. Hopefully Neal will recover.

Thank you :D Well, we know he will recover, with Peter's help, hehe :D

Wow, that is gorgeous. Chilling and peaceful in a dark way. And hurting.

Can we rescue him? And I don't just mean out of the water...

kanarek13kanarek13 on September 14th, 2015 10:56 am (UTC)
Thank you :D

Yeah, of course we can rescue him, though I imagine Peter will want to have first dibs on that :D

I have this idea stuck in my head that after Kate's death Neal wasn't handling it all too well, we only saw tiny glimpses of it in canon... I don't see him going all suicidal slashing his wrists or jumping off a bridge but I think he was subconsciously looking for a way to silence the chaos and grief at any cost.

In this particular scene I definitely think Peter will call Neal on that because he wasn't shot, he was conscious, the rope's been severed, his arms and legs were free, so he should have just swam away and up to the surface, to safety... instead he just stayed there and that scared the shit out of Peter :P

I am evil :P

The image reminds of the magician who escapes death. Love the serenity portrayed.

Oh, love the comparison ♥ Wow, now I'm even more happy that I went this way, hee :D Thank you :D

Wow - this is very powerful. Poor Neal, I can just imagine Peter diving in to save him.

Thank you :D I almost emailed you asking for ideas, heee... but then this came along :D

Yes, I think this situation will seriously scare Peter, poor Neal is in for a serious talk *pets him*

Gorgeous! And I like how the image in the water is blended with the water so well! Took me a moment to see it, but all the better for that when I did! :D

Thank you :D I didn't want the image to be much visible - mission accomplished :D

Awww, I promise nothing happened to Neal, for once he didn't even get shot, hee... he just had a moment...

Awww, Neal! *helps Peter to pull him out*

I'm, like many others, only partial to Kate; sure, there wasn't much info on her apart from what we got from "Forging Bonds", but still, she seemed cold and calculating to me (which is why I write her the same way, if she appears in a story).

Nonetheless, I still wish the writers would have given Neal the chance to show a bit more emotion about her death. Neal IS an emotional man, no matter how good he is at keeping the con man mask in place the rest of the time. I wasn't exactly satisfied with the way they swept the days following her death, especially with Neal being back in prison, under the carpet.

Anyway, I LOVE this artwork! It has its own beauty, though in a slight disturbing way. And the "hidden" picture in the water is the icing on the cake. BRAVA!

PS: Sorry for commenting so late, but I just found the link on a list I put together when I was without my computer. So be prepared for more comments ;)

Thank you :D Yeah, with Kate, she is mostly what we shaped her into, without any significant canon details, she is a blank page mostly.

And awww, yeah, me wants more grieving Neal... and worried Peter :D
