Oy, LJ...
I finally imported my entire LJ to Dreamwidth... I have a feeling things are about to go down the drain for LJ, so I need to become as friendly as possible with DW as soon as possible... But there are things about DW which annoy me to no end (like I can't even make the stupid toolbar in rich text editor appear in Chrome... or can't find the options I'm looking for...). I know it's mostly a matter of getting used to it but the whole thing is just MEH...

I want to make the migration smooth, so it's gonna take me a while, but my goal is to slowly drift away from LJ until we are all happily settled in our new DW home and only vaguely remember that old LJ place :P. So, for starters, I'm not sure how many of you actually have a DW account. Recreating the flist on DW sounds like a good starting point, so please, either friend me on DW or comment here so we can find each other over there :D

I think my next step will be migrating my journal style (... but that needs to happen when I have some free time. And I will still probably end up running to[personal profile] elrhiarhodan or[personal profile] angelita26 for help :P

And this is my first crosspost from DW \o/

I have a DW account under the same name and have tried to crosspost from DW since transferring my LJ over.

I haven't tried setting up a comm on DW or mirroring one I have on LJ. I might have to look into that, but not just yet. Worst comes to worst, I'll just have to close comms down if LJ goes wonky or something, until I've worked out how to set them up over on DW.

The thing that gets me about DW is that if you want more than icons than the basic paid account gives you (and I would), then you have to pay the premim account, which is more expensive than LJ. If they would offer icon packages like LJ did, to bring the cost down, then I'd be more happy abour moving over there.

Yeah, I just checked and they only offer to buy extra icons for 1 buck a piece, not exactly a bargain if you need 50 or 100 more :/ For now I need to transfer my layout to DW and learn the habit of crossposting, this is my goal for now. Anything else, we'll see how it goes :D

I've had another look and guess I'd have to go for the paid account and settle for 100 icons. Even that for a year is more than LJ - $35 for a year, whereas I pay $29.95 a year for my LJ account plus 70 extra icons (this would give me 100 icons, the same as the DW account, but I have 48 loyalty icons as well. Something DW doesn't do). I guess I would only be paying a little bit more, but would not be able to go above 100 icons without paying $50 a year, which is a LOT more! Or a buck an icon, which is just ridiculous!!

Financially, LJ is the better option. However, I understand the concerns people have about LJ, especially now it's based in Russia. I prefer LJ because I know how to use it and set up comms etc, but I can see me having to move one day and get a paid account on DW. I hope that day can wait a while though.

Yes, this :) I definitely won't just close shop here and move to DW, but it's just time to get myself acquainted with DW... I don't think anything drastic will happen in the nearest future, I'm sure they have a lot of Russian blogs they are dying to obliterate so these will probably be first... but at some point I expect the content of my LJ to become an issue... for now, let's just have that backup and see hat happens, hee :D
