7 Days of Self-Promotion - Day 4
The Days:
1. Something old
2. Something new - talk about a new fanwork of yours
3. Something you made for someone else
4. Something you made just for yourself
5. Something for a large fandom/pairing/character
6. Something for a small fandom/pairing/character
7. Something you're just really proud of

4. Something you made just for yourself

This one is actually easy :D As I've said before, pretty much everything that I create is for someone else. Of course, if I end up doing a wallpaper, it usually becomes my desktop wallpaper, too, but it's still something that I simply want to share with my friends and this is my main driver. However, there is one particular project that I did for myself - it's the avatar!Neal manip :)

Soon after the Avatar movie hit the cinemas, the Interwebs became flooded with various tutorials showing you how to transform someone into a Na'vi. Some of these tuts were very basic and the final outcome wasn't really close to the desired effect, and some were very advanced but offering awesome results. When I started playing with Photoshop, I came across one of those advanced tutorials and I thought it would be so cool to do it - just for the sake of practice. Needless to say, I didn't get very far, I selected my photo of Neal but never did anything more than clumsily removing the scruff and adding the blue color /o\

At the end of last year I came across the very same tutorial again and I decided to give it another try. After all, by then I've been playing with PS for more or less 3 years, so I figured I might be able to understand it better. It took me a few hours to complete but I was just so incredibly happy to have conquered that particular demon. It also gave me a chance to try out the bloat tool and liquify tool in Photoshop, I have never used them before, so that was another great thing that came out of it :D

All in all, it's neither pretty nor something you would use as a wallpaper or anything, but it felt really, really great to do it :D And after that I could go back to the pretty stuff :P
