Okay, so I didn't stay up the whole night to watch the Emmys because I had to go to work in the morning and I don't have any vacation days to spare for such occasions. I did set my recorder, though. And now I just have no motivation to watch it :(

I cannot believe that Matty didn't win. Are you f***ing kidding me? I'm not very fond of these award ceremonies because they rarely make sense to me and the winners are quite often in the WTF category, but this year probably for the first time I was not only looking forward to it, I was also so ridiculously proud of Matty and so happy for him that he was finally gonna be recognized for everything that makes him an exceptional actor and a beautiful human being. He gave his very best to this role, his talent, dedication, his health. I don't watch Sherlock but even without watching I just don't believe that there is anything in it that comes even close to Matt's performance in The Normal Heart.

I guess I should be happy that at least they recognized TNH as the best movie. Yeah, well... I am happy, of course, but it's just killing me that the one award that was truly deserved ended up being another WTF :(

This is a sad day /o\

As of today The Normal Heart is available on Blu-ray/DVD, so we can at least once again show our appreciation by securing a copy to be proudly displayed on our shelves :) (*waves* at angelita26)

Have some TNH art. I'm also using my ♥icon for this post, no matter what they say and do, Matty deserves all the hugs and kisses because to us he is the winner ♥

I think my biggest problem with the Martin Freeman win is that he is not a "supporting actor" on Sherlock in my opinion. John and Sherlock are partners, you don't have the show without *both* of them. I think the Sherlock people submitted him that way so they could have exactly what they got, Emmy wins for both of their co-leads.

That's absolutely spot on. Which makes me grumble even more about Matt's loss.

Oh, I haven't thought about it from this perspective, but I completely agree. It's like they would nominate Matty as the lead in WC and Tim as supporting cast, whereas they are both leads and equally important to the show.

There's this, but also the fact that Sherlock is not, in fact, a movie at all. Or a miniseries. It's a TV series, at least that's how it works in England, as far as I know. The Emmys have real issues with 1) their categories, and 2) the changed landscape of modern television. True Detective and American Horror Story are both anthologies - limited run shows with new characters and story lines each season. One submits as a miniseries, the other was put in as a drama this year. It was a big deal when Orange Is The New Black was entered as a comedy, which no one seems to think it is. People have been saying for a while now that it's unfair to compare a network series that has to create 22 episodes a year to a cable show that makes, say 10 (and whose creators may also have more freedom to do what they want, creatively, without having to play by the network 'rules,' whatever that means).

All of that said, I still think that Matt's performance was so far and away the best that none of this should have mattered.
